The History of the Rock- How we started
Our Journey
The Rock Church began in the winter of 2007 with Bible study in our homes, with Pastor Gwendolyn, Pastor Kenneth Isaac, our families, and a few of their friends under the guidance of Drs. Greg and Velinda Simmons of The Rock Church of Greenville, in Greenville, SC.
In May of 2008, Pastor Kenneth Isaac spotted this building, and we called the landlord and worked out a deal. Our first service began in this building on May 24, 2008. In October of 2008, Pastor Gwen was Commissioned by the Holy Spirit and her Bishop, Anne Gimenez, along with her Pastors, Drs. Gregory and Velinda Simmons, Pastor Gwen was ordained as Pastor in October 2008 and was sent out from the Rock Ministerial Fellowship of Virginia Beach, VA, to establish the Rock Church of Sumter, SC.
The following year, Pastor Kenneth Isaac, under the unction of the Holy Spirit, was directed to start another ministry.
RCOS has seen and overcome many ups and downs. We have seen people come and go, but that hasn't stopped us from our mission and doing the will of the Father. The Rock Church of Sumter is a staple in the community and has participated in several outreach opportunities.
